A phased rebuild of the Balsall Heath centre that has anchored Birmingham’s Shia community since 1980, funded largely by its own members.
The community began in 1968 with gatherings in members’ homes, moved to a rented house on Chesterton Road, and then built its own centre at 17 Clifton Road. It has stood there since 1980.
The rebuild is a multi-phase project to create all-encompassing facilities on the Clifton Road site, set in an established residential and mixed-use neighbourhood with good transport links.
What is being built
Prayer hall
A bright, open hall for daily and congregational prayer.
Imambargah
A gathering hall for majalis and community events.
Learning hub
A reading and study space for madrassah students.
Community kitchen
Catering for gatherings and community meals.
On-site parking
Parking and landscaped grounds around the new building.
